Four factors that determine the working speed of plasma cutting machine
Jul 11,2025
Many people listen to salespeople's introductions when purchasing CNC and other products, which can easily lead to misunderstandings among consumers. They believe that plasma cutting machines are mechanical and have an infinite awareness of work efficiency. But in reality, it is not like that. The speed of the cutting machine is determined by four major factors.
Factor 1: Model of cutting machine
The model refers to the size of the current output of the plasma cutting machine. It is the key factor that directly determines the thickness and speed of cutting. The higher the current, the greater the cutting ability and the speed will increase accordingly.
Factor 2: Different materials
The cutting speed of different cutting materials will also vary. Common cutting materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, and aluminum, but compared to others, cutting copper and aluminum is more complicated and the speed will be reduced. Ion cutting of copper and aluminum materials with the same power will result in a smaller thickness.
Factor 3: Input voltage magnitude
The power supply voltage in general factories is fixed. However, due to the different actual situations of each factory, the input voltage will directly affect the cutting speed.
Factor 4: Gas flow rate
The gas flow rate is the ability to ensure the formation of ion jets. Excessive gas flow can carry away a significant amount of arc heat, leading to a decrease in cutting ability. A too small gas flow rate can cause plasma and loss of proper straightness, reducing the depth of cutting and easily leading to slag deposition. Therefore, the gas flow rate must be well coordinated according to the cutting current and speed.
From this, it can be seen that being able to affect the working speed of a plasma cutting machine does not mean that the better the material, the faster the cutting speed will be. It still depends on the actual situation. The so-called favorable timing, location, and people should be expressed in this way! The purpose of choosing a cutting machine is to effectively utilize it to complete the work content.
